Northern Refugee Centre and partner organizations, are involved in promoting the Digital Switchover to BME communities and hard to reach people across Yorkshire and Humber region. The NRC development co-ordinator Radmila Fortune-West will be helping community champions, Migrant and Refugee Community Organisations, other charities and voluntary groups to prepare people in South Yorkshire, West Yorkshire and Hull for the switch to digital TV. She will be working with partner organizations across the region ensure their more vulnerable clients are fully prepared for the switch to Digital TV, which happens in August this year.
In partnership with Hull CVS, Sheffield VAS and Wakefield Voluntary Action, over the next few months there will be training and promotional events about Digital Switchover being held across the region. There will be a range of publicity materials available to make people aware of the Switchover and the help they are entitled to, which in some cases is free.
The message about digital switchover will be spread as part of our existing service provision, however we also encourage people to promote it as a part of their everyday routine, for example:
• Go to local pubs, restaurants, post office and shops
• Visit the local surgery, including vets, dentist, doctors or chiropody
• Use the local hairdresser
• Make home visits to the neighbours or elderly or disabled
